His gaze stayed set on the horizon as the pair made their way towards the town of Aizu. Without looking at Kiyoshi his ears would remain open to what was being said. He would give a quick nod in acknowledgement of what was said. “Of course I will help you. I would follow you into any situation!” he would exclaim. Kouta knew of course that he didn’t have to reply to what was asked, but he would to show that he was listening.
He kept his eyes dead set on their destination and looked at a place he found familiar. The young man grew up in an area much like this. His stomach knew the pain of near starvation. He could still feel the scratchiness of a dry throat even though he has been well fed and watered for a good time now. “Yes, it has the potential to be pretty, and you are the one who can actually make that potential be fulfilled,” he said with a grin.
Kouta’s torn clothing billowed in the wind and his cloak flowed behind him gracefully. He of course could have gotten clothes in his travels with Kiyoshi but he didn’t want them, especially for the upcoming challenge. Hiro knew he could definitely fit in easily with the outfit he was wearing. He looked like he was raised in the poor part of town, no matter which town that may be.

Giving a quick nod he would not say another word. Bringing his hands up to the top of his cloak he would pull a hood over his head to shield himself from any wind. The rest of the cloak flowed gracefully behind him, but only with its movement. With the shape it was in only poor people would want this cloak to wear. It was raggedy and full of holes.
He moved quickly and with haste until he entered a southern opening. Grabbing the edges of his cloak Kouta would pull it tight around his body. He kept his eyes hidden under his hood so nobody would see his face at first. His first goal was to see how the bandits that had taken over this place treated the citizens.
Making his way through the city he just walked around randomly. This was to make no hesitation in where he was going. It would also sell the thought that he knew where he was going. Kouta would take this method of traveling until he found a group of bandits.
They were gathered around each other not really doing anything. It actually looked like they really didn’t care what the citizens were doing. “Hmm… I wonder what they actually do out here,” he would think to himself as he began moving. He would bump his shoulder against one of the guards. Turning around quickly he would raise a free hand palm facing outwards. His other hand was wrapped around his Bo staff which he would use as if it were a walking stick. “I apologize, Sir. It was an accident.”
The guard would turn around with a glare on his face. Without hesitation he would grab Kouta’s cloak and pull him close. “Watch where you’re going, Bum!” he would shout. The young Hiro would smell his hot rancid breath before being thrown to the ground. As he fell backwards Kouta would let go of his walking stick and let it hit the ground. With his now free hands he would smack his ground breaking his fall a bit.
When Kouta hit the ground his hood would fall to his shoulders revealing his face. Like the normal Asian people he had black hair. Unlike the people of this time his hair was actually really short. During his time as a bum on the streets he was picked on more than enough and he wasn’t big on fighting if he wasn’t going to be killed. Eventually people disrespected him enough to cut off a good chunk of his hair.
The guards all examined his possessions. They seemed to be looking for something. One guard stepped forwards and sneered as he bent over and picked up the Bo staff, “He doesn’t have anything. This is one of the very poor ones that don’t even have a home to live in. These people are useless. Stealing from these people is one of our only ways to get supplies and half the supplies we get from them the boss keeps for himself. We aren’t going to last very long here. I don’t know why Boss isn’t trying as hard to make life here better, at least for his underlings.”
Kouta would stay on the ground and stare at them. He brought a false look of fear across his face as if he were scared of what they would do to him. Fortunately for everyone they didn’t do anything. The young man would pretend to flinch as they threw his stick back to him and one kicked him in the side. The second guard would say, “Get out of here and we don’t want to see you around here again,” as Kouta grunted from the strike.
Without even a nod Hiro would push his staff against the ground and push himself to his feet. From that little encounter he found out some of the bandits didn’t even like the life here. Things could be easier than he though. “Now I just have to find a large group of these very poor people they talked about,” he said in his head. As he walked away he would look over his shoulder back at the bandits. A thought lingered in his head, “It’s a good thing I don’t carry any possessions that I do have.”
He began following random people seeing if he could find where a bunch of the poor people stayed. After a couple failures he finally found someone who led him to a little gathering. It seemed that some people did stick together here. Kouta knew he had to start the bigger plan now.
Walking into the open near a fire he would allow himself to be seen by all, “Excuse me people! Gather ‘round!” At first he only got a few peoples attention. That was okay though. As time went on more people would be interested in what Kouta would have to say. “You guys have a horrible life here! I know what you are all going through I lived the same life! As most of you can tell just by looking at me. A lot of you probably think I’m crazy and that I do live here. That is why the people in the back are trying to ignore me. So you people that are thinking “I wonder if I should pay attention to this guy” sit down. You should pay attention and see what I have to say. I promise it will be for the better.
My life was changed the day I met a great man. Kiyoshi Masaru is the name of that man. Just from seeing him I could tell that he would do something with his life and the life of others. That something would be for the good, and he decided it would be done with this place. What would you guys do if I could promise you the same thing? That tomorrow something will happen to change your lives forever?” he would pause as he looked around. Kouta didn’t truly care if they nodded or shook their heads. That wasn’t the point of this. he would continue either way and he knew most of the people would be drawn in. He only had to look like he actually cared. After a few seconds he would continue again, “I am not truly from here, but I can look the part because I know how you guys are living. I’ve been there and I was saved from that life! If you guys give me a chance you can have that change too!” he smiled as more people gathered around before he continued, “I want that change you for you guys, and I can make that promise. Tomorrow life will change for you all. There is only one requirement from you, and it is an easy one. All you have to do is tell everyone you know and have them tell others. Tomorrow you guys shall go to the southern gate and wait for me to return. If you do this you will see a new light tomorrow and you will live in a better life! I will let you guys think about it for tonight and I will be on my way.”
He would turn around without another word. Kouta would leave them behind to let them think and talk to one another. It was a fact that some people there would not give him a second thought, though it was also a fact that anybody, whether they believed or not, that was slightly interested in what was happening would show up. So tomorrow Kouta and Kiyoshi would return to the southern entrance and see all of the people that have gathered. Kouta walked through the night until he returned to a man with two horses near him. It was Kiyoshi next to Maki and near those two were Kouta’s own horse who he had led along the voyage. His name was Retzy and he held all of Kouta’s possessions that would make him look like he wasn’t raised in poverty.
Returning to Retzy’s side he would tie his Bo to the horse before sitting down on the cool grass. He would turn his head towards Kiyoshi, “I’m back as you can obviously see,” he would say with a smile. Then he would relay all that had happened to him in the past day.

The people in the crowd listened to the young boy the day before. Most of the ones who did brushed the boy off. A boy, whom most of the men at the scene described as "An infant still attatched to the bosom," was speaking to them about a man who could change their life. The last time they were told such thing, that man and his six allies over ran their city and put it in its distressful state. These men walked away and told their friends how some child was blabbing around about some man who could help them.
There were, however, a few men and women who were so desperate for a better life that they believed the boy. Tossing their rationality aside for a better life for their families and themselves, the men and women listened eargerly to the boy. These people spread the word as well to their friends and loved ones, over anxious to see this man.
There was also another crowd that the boy drew to him that day. They were informants for the lord of the city, the head of the seven bandits, Uesugi Kenchu. The informants listened in to the boy's very word. The informants were regular citizens, but they were usually the first to receive Uesugi-sama's mercy when he murdered a family.
That night, the informants did their job and informed Uesugi of wheat was happening and what was to happen the next day. Kenchu laughed and ordered for the gates to be left open. He was a cocky man, but he wanted to see this fool before crushing his dream. The six other bandit leaders turned to Kenchu for a plan and the man gave it to them. Three of them were to go stand guard at the eastern, western, and northern gates. The other three would stay to encounter their enemies how they saw fit.. IF there were to be any.
The next day, Kenchu split his men up as instructed. Each taking 50 bandits with them. The three Generals headed towards the gates and the last three positioned themselves not too far from the palace in a defensive formation. Inside the palace, Kenchu sat on his throne.
At the southern gate, the men and women had gathered in a large multitude. Half were there out of hope, the others there to ridicule the man. The large gathering even attracted a few guards to hear the man speak. When it was all said and done, the man had actually won a few hearts over to his cause. Out of the populous of Aizu, 150 men rose to the call from the man. Along with ten of the guards that were at the gate.
