Daiseijin, had decided to win the favor of one of the most prominent military forces in Japan at the present time. He had sent a Diplomatic a small diplomatic envoy to the Sakamoto forces' stronghold for a peaceful meeting to discuss, how Daiseijin would swear his loyalties to the Sakamoto, and add his forces to theirs.
The Diplomatic Envoy, approached the front gate and announced themselves, "We are the diplomatic envoy sent on behalf of the Uematsu Clan and their leader the Honorable Daiseijin-sama, we wish to enter to further discuss the matter."
The speaker stepped back to once again be surrounded by his envoy, anxiously awaiting a response from the Sakamoto Forces. The envoy was told not to take no for an answer, and the punishment for failure would most likely be death.

The gates were warned much in advance of the coming of a small troupe of people toward the gate. Alerted, my men all flocked to the walls, the archer's poised to shoot and the militia guarding them. The introduction of these people as foreigners who wished no ill-blood did not put any of them at ease, trained to defend and fight and little else. Rather, they called for me, the lord, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and I appeared on queue.
"I hear you have a diplomatic propositon for me? I don't even know who you are, or who this Daiseijin is, why ever would I accept this offer?"
My words were true, as I had not heard of this person or his army, he likely trying to gain my favor because I was currently the largest force in this region. I didn't ask these questions to cause the negotiations of such a thing run to incorrectly, but rather was curious to hear the answers.
"What could you possibly offer me?"

“Then allow us to introduce ourselves, honorable leader of the Sakamoto Forces.”
The speaker of the troupe stepped forward, his words shouted to the man high above him. “We are members of the Uesugi Clan, hailing from Takogun on Tsukushi. We are lead by our righteous leader, Daiseijin-sama, who sends his regards to you, Sakamoto-san.”
“Honorable Daiseijin-sama has seen your growth from a far, and knows that you must be an intelligent man. And an intelligent man would know that there is strength in numbers. We of the Uesugi Clan are highly trained, and have been as such for centuries. We are sympathetic to your goals and would like to help you achieve them. We wish to be an ally rather than a hinderance!”
The speaker waited, still anxious, for a reply.

Their logic was flawed for one reason, this being that I had all the numbers I needed, and my forces grew by the day, but I was willing to humor them. I did not see any harm of having MORE troops, but I was still wary, and for good reason. Letting someone, let along someone with a following, into one's kingdom was a big step. I did not know the man and his ideals, nor did I know anything truly about where they had come from.
"If you see me as intelligent you must understand my hesitation. What's stopping your lord from trying to usurp me later? He'd know about all my plans, and could surely attack me when I was weakest. I need a true show of trust, something that allows me to believe I can trust your lord"
By not explaining what the actual 'show of trust' was I allowed them to think on it and choose themselves. This small choice would provide much insight on their intentions. A true show of trust would be something grand, personal, and real. A psuedo show of trust would be something feeble and small, something that was insignificant as to the actual purpose of the symbol.

The caravan had expected hesitation from the leader of the Sakamoto forces, and huddled together in order to plan out what should be said next. The speaker stepped forward, looking back at his party once more before speaking out.
“As previously stated, we of the Uesugi Clan are highly trained and very disciplined, and have been since our founding by the first honorable Daiseijin-sama. We began as a small can and are rapidly expanding, and if our expansion was aided by you and driven for your cause, we will bring you nothing but good results.”
“I am but a lowly messenger, and am in no position to demand a test from our Daiseijin-sama. However, we have been told to give you this, as a token of our dedication to your cause.”
Another man holding a large case steps forward, opening it and revealing a beautifully designed mask. “This here is the mask of the first and most honorable Daiseijin-sama, founder of the Uesugi Clan. We give our holiest artifact to you in hopes that you will bring it back to our village and see what our city has to offer.”
The man closes the case, and places it on the ground before the gate.

My brow was perked at the raise of the idea of giving me such an artifact, and I weighed my options. Of course, I had no idea the artifact's worth, but if it had indeed been that valuable I could not ignore the gesture. So I chose to humor this clan, offering my hand in friendship for the time being.
"I accept your plea for an alliance, but the terms still must be negotiated between rulers at a later date. But for all terms and purposes we are aligned."
With a nod and a snap three yashigaru ran out the gate and to the men to retrieve the object they had offered for the sign of trust. Hastily, they'd take it and return, running past me and taking the object to the castle's main structure in the distance.
"Have your lord come here at a later date, whenever his duties are finished and he has the time to negotiate the alliance."

The spokesperson of the group quietly stepped back into his group before saying one last statement.
“The honorable Daiseijin-sama will be here to meet with you soon. Thank you very much for your time.” With these last words, the caravan turned around in unison, heading back down the mountain and beginning their long journey back to Takogun.
