So I was thinking of changing the site a bit but im not too sure. 1. Change Nothing just update as we go. 2. KEEP IT THE SAME, we dont change anything just add the folklore and maybe some powers. 3. Changing the site into a folklore samurai rp. Where it would be a province based role play. It would be set in a one province and a pretty large one at that. You could choose from spirits and etc, from Japanese folklore of course. Spirits as in Yodai, Oni demons and such. In the Province their will be two towns and two castles. The towns being trying to get away from the Two daimyo fighting over the province from their two castles. Their would be other various locations. In this you get 1 power to start with and the battle exp system would still apply. Just there would be no taxation system or soldier system anymore. It would be more 1 vs 1 battles and less large scale battles. Of course you would be able to create small gangs but you know this will be hard to do. This we will keep all the small nifty events but of course the course of the site would ultimatly be decided by the Daimyo and Staff team pretty much turning it into another site like all the others. Of course and more... 4. Change the site into a hip-hop inspired site, being sorta like samurai champloo and afro samurai kinda site. Throw in some modernized items here and there. Eh... I havent though too hard on this idea but its still out there for SAMURAI CHAMPLOO LOVERS LIKE ME  |

I am also a Samurai Champloo lover.
I'm not too fond of the third choice because, as you said, it would turn the site into "one of the others". I like the freedom that is offered by the site as it is. I would suggest adding folklore just to spice things up a bit. Adding folklore would not change the essence of the site, which I want kept.
The fourth option would be something to look into for a separate site, maybe?
I really do like the idea, but I want to see it fully worked out before making judgment.

At the same time, as Ryuichi said, we haven't even scratched the surface of our current state yet.
As a compromise, we should keep the state of the site the same, and reconvene on the matter after we have experimented thoroughly with the current state of the site. Now that I think about it, we are not ready to make a decision about something like this so early.

I'm in agreement with the rest, though I wouldn't mind the second option. The third and fourth are appealing in their own ways, but what really drew me to this site was the clans and everything they encompass (major conflicts, castle sieges, etc.). Full on folklore and Samurai Champloo would deter away from what made this unique in comparison to others. I'm open to option two though since it wouldn't change much of core aspects of the site and add that bit of shounen animanga flare akin to Sengoku Basara.

I like the site as it is and the freedom and originality it has. I don't think anyone wants to see it become just another one of those sites. I think what draws people to it is the fact that it is something different from the norm. If you take that away then it's like why should people come here when they could get the same elsewhere. The site is still in it's starting stage lets let it continue and see how it goes before we change things.

I feel like I'm too new to have an opinion, but I like the site the way it is. I do, however, think it would be nice to have some folklore--a world history to base things around. I wouldn't add powers though, I like the semi-realism.

I don't mind the second idea. With powers though we don't want like full on magic. Like shooting things out our sword and stuff. Seems it's anime based however it could be interesting if we could move more freely than human, like speed, jump movements etc.

I like the first, second, and fourth idea. The first because the site is already awesome. The second, because it reminds me somewhat of Amatsuki (my all time favorite anime - though I hate the manga). I feel it would have to be strictly regimented though. Having a select group running wild with demons and what not could prove disastrous. Plus, I'd like you to elaborate on "powers". Finally, with the fourth option. I see possible integration of certain styles and what not, particularly Mugen's dance/sword style (which would suit me well). As well as give us some unique flair. When you mention Afro Samurai, I instantly think of the headbands! I'd love to see those brought here. It would make for an easy ongoing sub plot for members. I mean, we're samurai (for the most part) fighting and competition is what we do! |

Reading through the site then onto this made me think about it. If you change the site to Samurai Champloo/Afro Samurai, the skin would end up changing since it would have to fit with the whole new hippidy hop drop some beats on your blade sorta thing. I really like and have voted for option 2 of adding a bit of folklore to the site. I mean whilst at the mo I love the idea being all Dynasty/Sengoku style there is an element to folklore to em. Like how Oichi and Nobunaga Oda are all demon kings rawr shiz. However like Ryu, you need to elaborate on not what you mean by powers but maybe the EXTENT they can be done. So you have like X-men level being boom fire powers or you have street urchin level which is like WITH THE HELP of natural physics and stuff you can coat your blade in flame for a VERY SHORT amount of time.
Sure it isn't let’s nuke em powers, but still cool enough to get a title. This then leads onto an idea I just thought up whilst typing. This is what I am thinking:
We are still set in the Edo/Sengoku period still lacking major technology; all of us running around with oversized knifes having at each other. You still have the big armies so the battles can still be uber mega epic. So far nothing has really changed; now let’s infuse option 2 and 3!
You don't need to make several new races which are based off the demons so that everyone just goes for them and we run out of real humans. We could have it go along these lines:
The back story is that on one fateful day, the Sun and Moon rose together, causing an eclipse. NOW for our Japanese people, in their heads it’s more like Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu are having themselves a little scuffle. The world is plunged into darkness due to the eclipse lasting an unusual amount of time (1 day). In this time you have all the murderers and people panicking etc etc. Our CURRENT lords and ladies step up to quell the panic, so this in changing the site can also be a transition plot. Now the fusion of the folklore!
The fateful day ends, people start rebuilding, now I’m not saying that the eclipse gave people powers, but you know people start noticing things. We could have maybe (if there are 12 INTERESTING stories) have something along the lines of the 12 Tales. These 'tales' are actually the folklore come to life. So if one of them is about a murderous dog that kills its victims by transforming into their love ones and eating them, then that is actually happening.
Now it doesn't have to be ALL doom and gloom, but you could get some real powerful stuff out of it. Plus if you want some clashes between clans, what better way than having a tale about a beautiful maiden and 2 lord duking it out with their armies to get her?
So the way I see it working, without becoming one of the 'other sites' which just makes the legends and myths into races, is that the members of this forum their characters residing within Nippon, are instead going to have to deal with these tales being real. Whilst at the same time dealing with their borders and armies etc etc. This in my mind could give the site one hell of an edge, meaning REALLY creative plots can be done, also in terms of situations for character development it’s another huge opportunity. I mean what if there was a tale about a patch of land that caused who ever tread upon it to be frozen in time till I don’t know the closest person to them has to build up enough money to 'pay' time to set them free? 2 armies happen upon it, creating a race to see who can raise enough money to par 'time' back so that the winner can control the land?
Ya see this stuff writes itself!!

Anyway this doesn't have to be immediate changes and what not; I'm all for seeing how much you can push from the site in its current state. But yea from the newb of newbs on the site, that’s my 2 cents ^^
